Spurs can axe Johnson for 18-year-old sensation who's "something special"

da aviator aposta: Tottenham Hotspur slipped to their 17th defeat in the Premier League this season when they were beaten 4-2 by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

da 888casino: Ange Postecoglou’s side were well beaten by the Old Gold, who moved to within two points of Spurs, and they remain sat in 15th place in the top-flight.

There was a small positive to come out of the match, though, as Brennan Johnson continued his recent form with an assist for Mathys Tel’s strike.

Why Spurs need more from Brennan Johnson

The Wales international has now produced two goals and one assist in his last two Premier League matches, but that comes off the back of two goals and zero assists in his previous nine games in all competitions.

Inconsistency is the word. Spurs need consistency from their forward players if they want more success as a team moving forward, which is why they need Johnson to improve his output on a week-to-week basis.

The former Nottingham Forest forward, who has provided 11 goals and three assists in the league, has not been reliable on a consistent basis, instead delivering goals and assists in purple patches.

Whilst Postecoglou and his team will look to work with Johnson to improve the consistency of his output on the wing, Spurs could have an upgrade on the Welsh attacker brewing in the form of Min-hyeok Yang.

Why Yang could be a future Johnson upgrade

The 18-year-old winger was sent out on loan to Championship side Queens Park Rangers in January and has already shown glimpses of his quality at that level, despite his age and inexperience.

Yang, who talent scout Jacek Kulig claimed could be “something special”, has started six of his 12 appearances in the second tier for QPR and contributed with two goals and one assist so far.

As you can see in the table above, the teenage wizard is unfortunate to only have one assist to his name because he has created three ‘big chances’ for his teammates, and they have only taken one of them.

Johnson, meanwhile, has only created four ‘big chances’ in 29 appearances in the Premier League this season, which suggests that he has struggled to consistently create high-quality opportunities for his fellow attackers.

This suggests that Yang, who also scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 38 games for Gangwon in K League 1 in 2024, is a forward who has the potential to offer more creativity than Johnson.

His goal return for Gangwon last year, and his two goals in six starts for QPR, also suggest that he could provide a decent goal threat from a wide position as well, just as the Welsh ace does.

Yang is five years younger than Johnson and, therefore, has more time ahead of him to develop and improve as a player before making his breakthrough in the first-team with Spurs.

Tottenham should aim to send the teenage starlet out on loan, whether that is back to the Championship or to a top-flight side in Europe, to continue his development in the 2025/26 campaign.

Hopefully, Yang will be able to play week-in-week-out to hone his goalscoring and creative talents to eventually emerge as an upgrade on Johnson, based on the potential he has already shown in his short career to date.

My body has let me down, but I will push myself – Nehra

The India seamer is set to push, cajole and threaten his body, just so he can extract the last remnants of cricket life from it one more time

Gaurav Kalra06-Oct-20176:02

‘Can play for atleast two more years’ – Nehra

Ashish Nehra talks about his body as if it lives in a world of its own, outside of him. He doesn’t seem to like it very much and he is convinced his body doesn’t like him back. Now, as they find themselves in Ranchi to play for India, body and him together, Nehra ponders what might have been if only they had been better friends all these years. This body of his that has gone under the surgeon’s knife no less than 12 times, that is often unwilling to be dragged out of bed, that he pushes, cajoles and threatens, just so he can extract the last remnants of cricket life from it.”The only one thing that is not happy that I am still playing is my body,” Nehra chuckles, while speaking to ESPNcricinfo from Delhi before leaving for the series. “I can play for another couple of years but it isn’t easy for a fast bowler at 38-39, especially considering the state of my body. But I am just trying my level best.”At times when I wake up, especially in the winter in Delhi, my knees are so sore, it is half an hour before I can even leave my bed and am able to walk. I have had four surgeries in my ankle, plus my knee is always sore. But again, after half an hour so I say it to myself that I have to do it. I am the kind of person that if I decide [I’ll do] something, I have to do it. There’s no rocket science to this. You have to give 3-4 hours of the day to your body, definitely you will get the result. Some may get it later, but in the end, you will.”When you are young you don’t understand these things, you don’t understand the value of playing for India. In the last 7-8 years I missed so much cricket, maybe you can say I am trying to catch that up. You can never go back, but for the last 4-5 years I am pushing myself and I am getting the results. My body has let me down, that’s why I am so upset with my body at times. I am a firm believer that if my body is okay I can still play and deliver. That’s why I am always aware of my body.”Nehra can be a laugh riot. Asked about his unusual misfortune with repeated injuries one time, he is believed to have responded, ” (I don’t have injuries in my body, my body is somewhere in the middle of those injuries)”. This self-deprecating sense of humour has been an ally for Nehra well over a near two-decade long career that never quite scaled the heights it promised. This year has been no different for Nehra and his body. After playing in in the three match T20I series against England, where he tasted moderate success, Nehra could only feature in six games for the Sunrisers Hyderabad before being ruled out with a hamstring problem. However, once healed, Nehra took no time to get back to the grind, devoting himself to a patented routine that has served him well over the years.Ashish Nehra celebrates the wicket of Usman Khawaja•Getty Images”This is not new for me, I have become used to it,” he says. “I hear people say I got one surgery or two surgeries or I have a back spasm or a shoulder surgery and it will be difficult for me to come back. But I am always a firm believer in pushing yourself. Definitely you have to give more and more hours as you get older, you have to push yourself.”I am someone who always prepares. Even if no one is there at the ground, I practice. I just need a wicketkeeper who can take my balls. I bowl a lot at a single wicket, I put pressure on myself. After bowling I will do some fielding. My practice sessions are not too long, they are an hour and a half to two hours. But I keep that intensity going so when I play the game I don’t feel sore.”Nehra admits he isn’t sure “how long I can play for” and isn’t looking much further than the immediate challenge of these three games against Australia. He doesn’t rule out some sort of coaching role in the future as he likes to “share experience.” In the short term though, Nehra is eager to work alongside the other seam bowlers in the squad – Bhuvneswar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya – and simply make the most of the time he, and his rebellious body, have left in the game.”If they want to ask me something, whatever little bit knowledge or experience I have, I will definitely share with them,” he says. “All three of them have been doing well in the last few months. I have played with Bhuvi at Sunrisers for the last two years. He has a good head on his shoulders, and is one of the better thinkers of the game. Bumrah has been a fantastic one-day and T20 bowler and I believe that in the years to come he will be able to do well even in Test cricket. Pandya, everyone knew he was very talented and it’s good to see him convert talent into performances. He is an asset for the team.”For me it is another game, I have been playing for so many years so my experience will be handy for myself. I always back myself to do well. Even if you play every day, there will always be butterflies, there will always be pressure.”At this stage, I don’t make plans. [I take] every series as it comes, I can’t promise anything about whether I will be playing the next IPL. I don’t know how long I can play for. Like I said earlier, if it was in my hands I would never stop playing cricket but that is not going to happen. My debut was in 1999, so it will be 19 years soon. I don’t think too many people thought I would be playing for 19 years. Already, I have managed to stretch myself so far, you never know, let’s see.”

Beardman: 'Our strong suit has been how close we are as a group'

“With a pace attack like ours there’s a fair bit of confidence when we get 250 on the board,” says captain Weibgen

S Sudarshanan11-Feb-2024Australia captain Hugh Weibgen was all praise for his fast-bowling quartet of Callum Vidler, Charlie Anderson, Tom Straker and Mahli Beardman after their Under-19 World Cup win in Benoni as he backed them to “go a long way” in their respective careers.”With a pace attack like ours there’s a fair bit of confidence when we get 250 on the board,” Weibgen said at the presentation. “That was our plan [at the toss] to get a few runs and back ourselves to defend it. As a unit, they worked so good together. They know their roles and are happy to bowl either ends. They are all for the team. I would be surprised if all of them don’t go a very long way in their careers.”Middle-order batter Harjas Singh had a lean patch heading into the final, with only 49 runs across six matches. But Australia persisted with him in the side and he responded with a crucial 55 at No. 4.”He [Harjas] is a quality player,” Weibgen said. “Class is permanent, form is temporary. Full credit to the coaches for sticking with him, putting the faith in. All the boys knew he could get the runs. It was awesome to see him score runs today.”Related

How Dennis Lillee helped Beardman with mental prep

Beardman, who picked up ten wickets in the competition including 3 for 15 in the final that pegged India back, said the win felt “surreal” and also spoke about former Australia fast bowler Dennis Lillee’s influence on his game.”[It feels] pretty surreal to be honest and hasn’t fully set in yet,” Beardman said after he was named the Player of the Match. “It has been something we have been working on for a long, long time. All that hard work has paid off. India have been incredible this tournament, so we knew there was always going to be a good battle.”Mahli Beardman was named the Player of the Match for his three wickets•ICC/Getty Images

Beardman, who has been coached by Lillee, was brought on as second change in the match and struck immediately, removing the prolific Musheer Khan. He then went on to dismiss Uday Saharan, India’s captain and leading run-getter of the competition, and then bounced out the set Adarsh Singh, who had scored 47, to kill the chase.”From DK [Lillee] I learnt a lot of mental stuff and tried to implement that as much as I can this tournament. He got me thinking about my bowling instead of just bowling, thinking about my field setting and then from there working on mental things – little cues like going head, and then going toes next ball. Stupid stuff like that.”[The win] means so much. The amount of work we have put in over the last year and a bit, prior to the England series as well, this has been on the forefront of our minds. Standing alongside Cal [Vidler] and the rest of the cartel is a dream come true. Our strong suit has been how close we are as a group, and it is not just performance-based but off the field as well. We get along really well as mates and that chemistry helps.”Beardman lauded his team-mate Vilder, who has led the pack for Australia with 14 wickets – joint third-most in this Under-19 World Cup – with Straker close on his heels with 12.”[Vidler] has been incredible,” Beardman said. “It was a pleasure to bowl alongside him. He was awesome in England, he’s been crazy here as well. He is super talented. It was a pleasure to bowl alongside him and the rest of the cartel. Future goals will be Big Bash [League] and play for my state.”Straker, who picked up the final wicket to kick off the celebrations, said, “[It is a] great feeling. We have worked all year for this. We have been to Brisbane and England, all for this moment and it has finally come. We are all good mates. We all love to play with each other and we love four quicks playing.”

Head hopeful of joining World Cup squad in India on Thursday

The impact of the left-hander’s absence has been clear amid Australia’s poor start to the tournament

ESPNcricinfo staff15-Oct-2023Travis Head has returned to the nets for the first time since he suffered a fractured hand in South Africa and is hopeful of being able to fly out to join the World Cup squad in India on Thursday.Head had the cast removed late last week and is now facing throwdowns. Scans have shown the fracture, inflicted by fast bowler Gerald Coetzee at Centurion, is healing well although he still needs a final sign-off before joining the Australia team. The earliest possible return for Head would appear to be the Netherlands match on October 25 although that may still be cutting things fine.Related

“It’s coming along well, and probably better than we hoped,” Head told cricket.com.au. “When we decided not to go with surgery, which would have meant a ten-week recovery, we were told it would be minimum six weeks with the splint before we could look at playing again.”Going by that plan, the Netherlands game will be just under six weeks from impact which is a pretty aggressive date so everything would have to go perfectly from here to make that deadline.”But we’ll just see how it progresses over the next few days and I’m excited by the prospect of joining the boys over there later in the week.”Head’s importance to Australia’s plans was emphasised when the selectors opted to only have 14 available players for the first part of the tournament and effectively saw them replace Ashton Agar with a specialist batter in Marnus Labuschagne to help cover for Head’s absence. He had been having a magnificent run the ODI side, averaging 60.84 with a strike rate of 119.84 since his return in 2022. Former Australia captain Aaron Finch said the impact of his absence had been clear during the team’s early struggles.”Sometimes it’s not the amount of runs he gets but the pressure he puts on the opposition because they know he’s going to come hard, they can panic and get a bit defensive in their mindset and then [David] Warner gets away, and if [Mitchell] Marsh comes in, he gets away as well,” Finch told ESPNcricinfo.Australia are yet to score a half-century in the tournament and have been bowled out for 199 and 177 in their two games. But it will be asking a lot of Head to come in and perform straightaway. While the selectors have put huge stock in what Head is capable of, there remains a possibility they still opt to replace him and the chance of that could increase if Australia are unable to win against Sri Lanka on Monday, which would leave them a mountain to climb to reach the semi-finals.”There’s still a few hurdles we need to clear, and everything needs to fall into place from my end and from the team’s point of view over there before the final decision is made,” Head said.

Celtic eye move to sign "strong" gem who’s impressed chief Parkhead scout

With young striker Daniel Cummings currently heading for the exit door as a free agent, Celtic have reportedly turned their attention towards signing another rising star who has already impressed their chief scout.

Celtic transfer news

How busy the Bhoys are this summer remains to be seen. After all, they once again sit a class above the rest of the Scottish Premiership and came closer than they have done for a long time to reaching the Champions League last 16, having pushed Bayern Munich all the way. So, in truth, Brendan Rodgers may find himself in a position of luxury when the transfer window swings open.

Instead, the former Leicester City manager may have to keep an eye on the exit door amid rumours surrounding the likes of Nicolas Kuhn and Cummings’ likely exit. The interest in both players should come as no surprise either. Kuhn has stolen the show at times this season, scoring 18 goals and assisting another 13 to emerge onto the radar of Tottenham Hotspur and others.

Cummings, meanwhile, is set to be out of contract this summer after failing to put pen to paper on a fresh deal amid a lack of first-team opportunities. With 23 goals in 22 Lowland League games at youth level this season, it’s fair to say that the Scottish champions will be losing a prospect they must replace.

It’s something that they seem to be well aware of too. According to The Daily Record, Celtic are now eyeing a summer deal to sign Owen Stirton from Dundee United this summer following his impressive loan spell at Scottish League One side Montrose.

Not just Maeda: Celtic have hit the jackpot on star who's outscoring Kyogo

Celtic have struck gold with the star who has outscored Kyogo Furuhashi so far this season.

ByDan Emery Mar 11, 2025

It’s there that the 18-year-old striker has impressed Celtic’s chief scout, Tosh McKinlay, who watched him in action as Montrose drew 0-0 against Kelty Hearts in a rare day without a goal for the teenager with six in seven league games this season.

"Talented" Stirton would ease Cummings blow

After enjoying an excellent spell out on loan, Stirton is set to return ready for bigger and better things. Whether that’s with Dundee or, indeed, with Celtic seems to be the big question. There’s no doubt that the teenager has shown the potential to step up to the Scottish champions in years to come, but the Bhoys could make their move far sooner than that before reaping the rewards.

Daniel Cummings for Celtic

Dubbed “strong” by The Courier’s Dundee United reporter Alan Temple last year, the decision will be the biggest of Stirton’s career so far. Whilst he may look towards Cummings’ situation as one to take advantage of, however, the young forward must ensure that he avoids following the same path as the Celtic prospect who has struggled for senior minutes.

Having already impressed at senior level, Stirton has earned the chance to avoid a return to youth football which may well come with a summer switch to Celtic Park. As attractive as a move to the Scottish champions may be, the young Dundee forward certainly has a lot to consider if they come calling.

Boehly has hit the jackpot on "special" Chelsea star worth more than Samu

Chelsea were riding the crest of a wave at the beginning of Enzo Maresca’s tenure – but the trials and tribulations of the season have since affected this talented squad.

Seventh in the Premier League, the Blues have been beset by a deluge of injury issues over the past month that has limited Maresca’s options considerably, especially at the front of the ship.

Chelsea players warming up

There’s plenty of promise about this Stamford Bridge side, however, in spite of the money spent over the past several years, Todd Boehly and Co are still met with the need to sign some top-class talent across a range of areas.

Where Chelsea need to strengthen in the summer

Chelsea’s head coach confirmed in the wake of his side’s Premier League defeat at Villa Park on Saturday evening that Filip Jorgensen remains ahead of Robert Sanchez in the pecking order between the sticks – des[ite spilling Marco Asensio’s late effort to condemn the Londoners to defeat.

With Sanchez also flattering to deceive, it’s possible that bringing a new shot-stopper to the Bridge will be a chief priority for the Chelsea transfer team, though the need for reinforcements stretches into other areas.

Indeed, the Blues may need to dip back into the defensive market with Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile struggling for fitness and Levi Colwill struggling for form.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are tussling with Arsenal and Bayern Munich for Sporting Lisbon centre-half Ousmane Diomande, regarded as one of the most exciting young defenders in the business.

There’s also the matter of the frontline. With Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu (who is only 18) both sidelined for the foreseeable, Chelsea may need to sign a new striker this summer.

However, any move they make must not jeopardise Jackson’s place in the team. He’s made progress this term, and could yet reach the height of his lofty potential.

Why Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson

Jackson is currently out of action with a muscular injury and is reportedly not expected back on the grass until after the March international break.

Chelsea'sNicolasJacksonreacts after sustaining an injury

However, he’s made considerable progress during his time at Stamford Bridge so far and may well find that his brightest days in Chelsea colours lay ahead of him.

In July 2023, Chelsea welcomed Jackson to the Premier League from Villarreal after activating his £32m release clause. The Senegal international joined the cause on an eight-year contract and has ebbed and flowed over almost two years in the English capital.

With 23 goals and ten assists across 58 appearances in the Premier League, Jackson has left something to be desired but has still proven himself through an athletic and powerful style and discernible improvements in front of goal.

The 23-year-old arrived for a sizeable figure but he’s already skyrocketed in market value. It’s early days yet, but Chelsea might just have hit the jackpot with this dynamic centre-forward.

What Nicolas Jackson is valued at in 2025

Jackson started his second campaign in Chelsea colours with a bang – but the forward did spin out of form across the winter period, going eight matches without a goal in the Premier League before picking up a hamstring injury.

However, there are still promising signs in regard to his clinical edge, missing fewer big chances this term while increasing his shots-per-game average.

For sure, Jackson could be more clinical in front of goal, but he’s made headway, no doubt. In fact, he’s made so much progress that CIES Football Observatory – the world leader in the scientific evaluation of player values – have recorded Jackson to have a current market value of £87m, which equates to a 171% uptick.

More curiously, this is higher than FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa, who joined the Portuguese giants from Atletico Madrid last summer in a deal worth just £13m.

FC Porto's SamuOmorodioncelebrates scoring their first goal

Sorry for the reminder. But given that Chelsea had a €40m (£34m) deal in place just weeks earlier, it stings a little for those of a Blues persuasion, not least because the robust striker has hit the ground running and then some at his new outfit. In short, he’d be perfect in Maresca’s side.

The 20-year-old has scored 19 goals from 30 matches this season – including a brace against Manchester United in the Europa League – with talent scout Jacek Kulig claiming that he’s “on the path to achieving something special at Porto.”

Well, journalist Rahman Osman has also hailed Jackson as a “truly special” talent, for the striker ranks among the top 13% of positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for shot-creating actions and the top 12% for both progressive carries and successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref, perfectly illustrating his energetic threat.

This multifacetedness bespeaks Jackson’s quality. CIES, after all, records that Samu has seen his stock to a whopping £60m. This is impressive, but he’s not on Jackson’s level.

With Nkunku’s long-term future perhaps away from west London, it feels likely that BlueCo will green-light a summer transfer plan for a new number nine.

However, in Jackson, Maresca has one of the most talented young strikers in Europe. Chelsea must be careful not to welcome someone to the detriment of the Senegalese’s continual development.

In any case, Chelsea are looking to enter a higher phase of European competition next season and Jackson might benefit from the competition with another talented striker.

If he uses such an eventuality to spur on and continue to make gains, he might just prove to hit that lofty potential that convinced Chelsea to make their move for a decent fee back in 2023.

Sussex batting thrives against stragglers Derbyshire on Hove opening day

Sussex 376 for 7 (Clark 96, Haines 86, Carter 56, Hudson-Prentice 52*) vs DerbyshireTom Clark top-scored with 96 and three of his team-mates also made half-centuries as Sussex took the first-day honours against second division strugglers Derbyshire at Hove.Having put Sussex in, Derbyshire squandered any advantage offered by a pitch with a covering of live grass during a careless first session at the 1st Central County Ground when they conceded 150 runs without parting openers Clark and Tom Haines.Haines fell for 86 to the first ball after lunch and Clark went on to a season’s best before both Ollie Carter and Fynn Hudson-Prentice passed fifty for the fifth time this season after tea as Sussex closed on 376 for seven.Sussex have yet to lose this season but badly need a second win to strengthen their hopes of promotion in the LV= Insurance County Championship and would have been pleased with their day’s work, although Clark and Haines will be disappointed not to have got to three figures.Despite its green tinge the surface is dry and few balls misbehaved all day. Off-spinner Alex Thomson picked up three wickets for the first time in a year after being called into the attack as early as the 17th over, but the Derbyshire seamers found little help from either the surface or the Kookaburra ball being used for the second time this summer.Skipper Leus du Plooy employed six bowlers in the morning session without reward as Sussex’s two left-handers made serene progress at more than five runs an over. Haines was the more aggressive, hitting 15 fours, and it was a surprise when he pushed forward to the first ball after lunch as Thomson found a modicum of turn and edged to slip.It was the start of a productive afternoon for Derbyshire who bowled with more discipline, although they were helped by some questionable shot selection by Sussex’s batters.Skipper Tom Alsop drove loosely at Suranga Lakmal and was caught at slip and James Coles, who’d just hit Thomson for a straight six, tried a repeat and instead holed out to long on.Clark and Carter added 55 for the fourth wicket with few alarms and Clark was on course for his first hundred of the season when he tried to drive Thomson down the ground and picked out Du Plooy, who took a comfortable catch at long off. Clark hit 14 boundaries but he knew he’d missed out on a sizeable score as he trudged off.George Scrimshaw, playing his first Championship match for nearly a year, wasn’t afraid to test out the middle of the pitch and was rewarded in the 78th over when Dan Ibrahim, who had struggled for fluency, wafted at a bouncer and was caught at backward square leg.Carter has been Sussex’s most consistent batter and in his unfussy but effective way he passed fifty for third successive match only to fall to a leg-side strangle and give Scrimshaw his second wicket.Nathan McAndrew lost his off stump to Lakmal when Derbyshire took the new ball, having been dropped at second slip by Haider Ali off Sam Conners in the previous over. But former Derbyshire all-rounder Fynn Hudson-Prentice hit Conners for four successive fours on his way to a 46-ball half-century and even nightwatchman Ari Karvelas enjoyed himself, lofting Anuj Dal over the pavilion roof just before stumps.

Celtic in talks to sell international defender for 7-figure loss

da leao: A “superb” Celtic player is now in talks over a move away during the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

da brdice: The Hoops continue to push hard for new signings this summer, with Aston Villa youngster Louie Barry seen as an option to come in and bolster Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

The 22-year-old excelled on loan at Championship side Hull City last season, scoring 15 goals in just 22 starts in the league, and could be sold in a hurry as Villa look to beat the PSR deadline in England.

Girona striker Bojan Miovski has also been mentioned as an option for Celtic ahead of next season, with the 26-year-old proving himself at Aberdeen in the past, scoring an impressive 44 goals in 98 appearances for the club, and 30 in 68 Scottish Premiership matches.

Yverdon Sport midfielder Moussa Baradji is another name in the mix, being tipped to potentially have as big an impact as Victor Wanyama did during his time at Parkhead.

"Superb" Celtic player in talks over exit

According to Joseph on X, Celtic bosses are “in talks” with Braga over a deal for centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke, with Championship clubs also said to be “interested” in him.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano reports that Braga have “sent” a bid of £1.7m the Hoops’ way, with the defender “keen” on the move. If he did leave for that amount, Celtc would make a £1.3m loss, having signed him for £3m.

This does arguably feel like the right time for Lagerbielke’s Parkhead career to come to an end, even though Rodgers did hail him back in 2023 after a rare goal, praising his “superb” mentality.

“It was a great moment for him because he hasn’t been involved in squads, other guys have been in front of him. But his attitude in training in the main has been superb and he has always been ready. The irony of him being sent off and then getting the goal was great, a really nice moment for him.”

Last season, Lagebielke was loaned out to Dutch side FC Twente, with Celtic finding it hard to justify a place for him in the squad, and it doesn’t look as though the 25-year-old’s situation is going to change next term.

The Sweden international is at a point in his career where he needs to be featuring regularly at a permanent club, rather than warming the substitutes’ bench or being loaned out.

Dream Kuhn replacement: Celtic weighing up bid to sign "electric" £12m star

With Nicolas Kühn seemingly set to leave Celtic this summer, could Brendan Rodgers sign an “absolutely electric” replacement?

ByBen Gray Jun 27, 2025

He still has three years remaining on his current Celtic deal, so there is no reason why the Scottish champions can’t still receive a decent fee for him – more than £1.7m would be preferable – and he would surely jump at the opportunity to enjoy a fresh challenge.

'The transition hasn’t started' – Marcus Rashford claims Man Utd are in 'no man's land' in brutally honest interview with Gary Lineker after Barcelona loan transfer

Marcus Rashford has given his verdict on the situation at Manchester United after moving to Barcelona on a season-long loan.

Rashford has joined Barcelona from Man UtdSays transition at former club yet to startIs hurt to see Red Devils in declineFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

The forward left Old Trafford this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by Ruben Amorim and has joined Barcelona on loan. Rashford has now assessed the current situation at Manchester United and feels that a period of transition is still yet to start, despite the appointment of Amorim last season and a host of new players being brought to the club this summer.

AdvertisementWHAT RASHFORD SAID

He told podcast: “People say that we’ve been in a transition for years but to be in a transition you have to start it. The actual transition hasn’t started yet.

“When Liverpool went through this, they got [Jurgen] Klopp and stuck with him. They didn’t win in the beginning. People only remember his final few years when he was competing with [Manchester] City and winning the biggest trophies. To start a transition you have to make a plan and stick to it.

“This is where I speak about being realistic about what your situation is. We’ve had that many different managers, ideas and strategies in order to win that you end up in no man’s land.

“When [Sir Alex] Ferguson was in charge, not only were there principles for the first team but they were for the whole academy. So you could pick players from 15 years and they’d all understand the principles of playing the Manchester United way. Any team that has been successful over a period of time has principles that mean that any coach or player that comes in has to align to or add to the principles. At times, United were hungry to win but it was reactionary. If your direction is always changing you can’t expect to win the league.”

Rashford also admitted it hurts to see his former club struggling, adding: “Yeah, 100 per cent. But not just as a player but as a fan.”
