Rangers: Cedric Itten rinsed the club dry for 95 weeks

Previous Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will go down in the history books as the man who delivered league title number 55, a full decade after the club’s previous Premiership title triumph in 2011.

Despite his acrimonious exit – departing for Aston Villa during the middle of the season – his tenure is looked back upon fondly by the Ibrox faithful, with the club emerging back onto the European scene.

His record in the transfer market was hit or miss, however. Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Ianis Hagi have all proved to be massive hits, yet these moves were offset by the former Liverpool captain signing some rather average players, including Eros Grezda, Jordan Jones and Juninho Bacuna.

One of his worst signings, especially considering the big financial outlay, was that of Cedric Itten, and he just couldn’t get a regular run in the starting XI under Gerrard, costing the club precious funds.

How much did Cedric Itten cost Rangers?

The Swiss striker joined the Light Blues in 2020 for a fee reported to be around £3m, turning out to be one of Gerrard’s more extravagant purchases during his tenure.

He scored 20 goals in 36 appearances for FC St Gallen the season prior to joining Rangers and with Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe the only real out-and-out strikers at the club, it was clear more firepower was required.

Unfortunately, he didn’t repeat those heroics in Scotland, scoring just six times in 37 matches during his debut campaign, with the majority of his appearances coming from the bench to replace crowd favourite Morelos.

Cedric-Itten-Rangers

Despite securing a league winners medal, Itten joined Bundesliga side Greuther Furth on loan for the 2021/2022 season in a hope that he could boost his confidence with journalist Josh Bunting claiming he had “struggled for game-time at Ibrox” while his spell in Germany yielded just two goals before he was recalled by Giovanni van Bronckhorst in January.

His efforts to prove himself to the Dutchman fell way short, netting twice in eight matches, and he was soon on his way out of Ibrox in a £1.5m deal to join BSC Young Boys.

Overall, the player rinsed the club of around £4.4m in total, a sum that includes his initial transfer fee plus an alarming £1.4m earned in wages across a rather underwhelming 95-week spell in Glasgow.

This money could have been utilised elsewhere, and hopefully, Michael Beale will learn from his predecessor's mistakes in the transfer market.

Man Utd "Working On" Deal For £32k-p/w Bruno Partner

There has been an update regarding Manchester United's pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat…

What's the latest on Amrabat to Man United?

According to transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are still pressing on in their desire to land the Moroccan international this summer, albeit with prior reports that a bid had been lodged for the 26-year-old having seemingly been "premature".

Writing on Twitter, the respected insider revealed: "Amrabat after friendly game: “I don’t know if I’m leaving… maybe I can stay here at Fiorentina”. Told there are no changes: Man Utd keep working on Amrabat and want him — but talks are on player side. No bid… yet.

"Reports about official bids last week were premature."

While it would appear that an offer for the former Club Brugge ace has not yet been made by those at Old Trafford, the Daily Mail only recently reported that the 6 foot 1 maestro could cost in the region of £25m, having entered the final year of his contract in Florence.

How would Amrabat fit in at Man United?

While player sales may be needed prior to any deal for the Netherlands-born ace, it looks as if Fred could be on his way to Turkish giants, Galatasaray, while Donny van de Beek has caught the attention of La Liga outfit, Real Sociedad, thus ensuring that space could soon be available in the first-team squad at the Theatre of Dreams.

If Amrabat – who featured 50 times under Erik ten Hag during his prior stint at FC Utrecht – is to sign on the dotted line over the coming weeks, the Red Devils would be snapping up a combative and composed asset who could slot in nicely in the centre of the park.

Bruno Fernandes

Lauded as something of a "beast" by ESPN's Steve Nicol amid his strong form for his country at the World Cup last year, the £32k-per-week ace could potentially allow United's attacking talents to shine due to his defensive acumen, with Bruno Fernandes likely to be a notable beneficiary.

The latter man has been the undoubted creative hub for the Premier League side of late having created 32 big chances in the top-flight last season – more than any player in the division – proving himself a true master at providing quality service from his playmaking berth.

For the Portugal international to have a figure like Amrabat behind him could well prove to be a dream scenario, with the Fiorentina man having notably averaged 3.2 tackles and interceptions per game in Qatar as a sign of his knack for winning back possession – with that record not far off what Casemiro achieved in the league last season (4.4 tackles and interceptions per game).

Perhaps the 49-cap international's most notable attribute is his ball-playing quality from a deep-lying midfield berth, with that showcased by the fact that he ranks in the top 5% among those in his position in Europe's top five leagues for pass completion, ensuring that the one-time Feyenoord man is not one to squander possession easily.

Equally, Amrabat could also be perfect for Fernandes due to his knack for playing incisive forward passes as he ranks in the top 8% for progressive passes, with that a sign that he regularly looks to find those ahead of him.

That could then benefit the United skipper – who previously joked about Fred's shortcomings on the ball, in contrast to former coach Michael Carrick – as he can regularly pick the ball up in dangerous areas to try and impact proceedings in the final third, with Ten Hag's chief chance creator likely to be able to do even more damage next season.

Chelsea Eyeing Move For £30k-A-Week Premier League Starlet

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson this summer, but it will only be possible on one condition.

How much does Brennan Johnson earn?

The Welshman, who has the same agent as Reece James, has become one of the first names on the team sheet at the City Ground, playing a huge role in Forest getting back into the Premier League, and continuing to shine in the top flight.

Last season, the £30,000-a-week-earning Johnson scored eight goals and registered three assists in the league, helping his side pull away from the relegation battle in the process. He is going to be a vital player for them again in 2023/24, so it is clear that they are desperate to keep hold of him for as long as possible.

Chelsea are on the lookout for more attacking signings this summer, and having missed out on Crystal Palace star Michael Olise, alternatives are now being looked at.

While more of a central attacker than a wide player, it appears as though Johnson has been identified as a possible addition at Stamford Bridge before the current transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Brennan Johnson

Will Chelsea sign Brennan Johnson?

According to The Daily Mail, Johnson has emerged as a summer target Chelsea, alongside Jeremy Doku, but a move will only be able to happen if they match the Reds' £50m valuation of him:

"Chelsea are in the running to sign Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson this summer. The Blues have been keen to bolster their attacking depth throughout the transfer window and were close to sealing a move for Michael Olise – before the Crystal Palace winger signed a four-year contract extension on Thursday.

"Chelsea's interest in Johnson, however, has been longstanding and the Forest star has been on their radar prior to their move for Olise falling through. However, any move for the Wales international will depend on Chelsea meeting Forest's £50m valuation for the 22-year-old."

Johnson is an excellent footballer who has shown his class for Forest over an extending period now, scoring 29 goals in 106 appearances, not to mention netting twice in 19 caps for Wales and being hailed as "fantastic" by Forest manager Steve Cooper.

For all his quality, though, it could be argued that the 22-year-old isn't quite what Chelsea are looking for this summer, with proper wide options more pressing. While he can drift into those areas, his best football is arguably played down the middle, and he doesn't possess natural width like Olise, for example.

Read the latest Chelsea transfer news HERE…

The step up from Forest to Chelsea is also huge, so there would be question marks over whether Johnson was at the level required to take the Blues to that next step, with the Wales man an excellent option for Forest, but someone who could ultimately look out of his depth for one of the so-called 'big six'.

At 22, it is worth stressing that he remains a very young player with a high ceiling, however, so if Mauricio Pochettino has faith in him being an ideal option before the window ends, he should be trusted in bringing in the right players.

Man Utd’s Dream XI If They Land Kylian Mbappe Amid Rumours

After taking Manchester United back into the Premier League's top four last season to qualify for the Champions League, Erik ten Hag will be looking to step things up another level at Old Trafford in the coming campaign.

The Dutchman proved that intent at the very start of the summer, too, as David de Gea left the club as a free agent, making way for Andre Onana, whose ability on the ball should finally welcome the Red Devils into the modern-day era of football.

Ten Hag may not be stopping there, either, with plenty of time left until the transfer window slams shut to turn his side into serious title contenders.

With that said, we've taken a look at how Manchester United could line up next season.

RB: Benjamin Pavard

The right-back spot at Manchester United has never really been filled under Ten Hag, with the Dutchman often switching between Diogo Dalot, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, depending on what he wants from his fullbacks.

The former Ajax boss could end his selection headache with the signing of Bayern Munich's Benjamin Pavard, however.

According to Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils have held talks to sign the defender this summer, with an offer expected soon.

CM: Sofyan Amrabat

After already bolstering their midfield options with the arrival of Mason Mount this summer, Manchester United are close to agreeing a £22m fee with Fiorentina to sign Sofyan Amrabat this summer, according to reports in Italy.

The Morrocon left many impressed with his performances at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, with the Red Devils now reportedly interested in bringing him to Old Trafford this summer.

Back in the Champions League, United could certainly do with the added depth in the middle of the park.

ST: Rasmus Hojlund

One name consistently linked with Manchester United this summer is young Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 20-year-old has agreed personal terms on a five-year deal with the Premier League giants, and the Red Devils are now pushing to get a deal done soon.

Having scored 16 goals, and assisted a further seven in all competitions last season, Hojlund would undoubtedly add extra firepower to United's offensive line next season.

At such a young age, too, the only way is up for the Dane.

ST: Kylian Mbappe

It would feel somewhat fitting, right? If Man United managed to secure the signature of Kylian Mbappe, whilst Erling Haaland stars for local rivals Manchester City. It would be English football's closest answer to Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo when the pair were in La Liga.

According to Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports, United are one of the interested parties in a potential deal for Mbappe this summer.

The Manchester club are, of course, not the only side interested in making a move for the Frenchman in the current window, however, with Al-Hilal leading the way with their eye-watering €300m (£258.19m) offer, which will be accepted by Paris Saint-Germain, according to Romano.

With a long transfer window ahead, anything could happen, though, with United interested in the PSG forward.

With that said, here's how Manchester United could line up next season:

Aston Villa: Monchi’s interest in surprise transfer confirmed

Aston Villa tried to pull off a surprise transfer swoop late in the window that never came to fruition at Villa Park, according to reports from transfer insider Ben Jacobs.

What's the latest news involving Aston Villa?

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has issued an update confirming that Philippe Coutinho looks to be on his way out of Villa Park following months of speculation surrounding his future, as he stated: "Al Duhail are now closing in on Philippe Coutinho deal! Agreement being sealed with Aston Villa on loan move with salary covered. Coutinho accepted 10 days ago as he rejected approaches from Besiktas and Betis to join Qatari side Al Duhail. Here we go, soon."

In his time in the West Midlands, Coutinho has struggled to make a lasting impact at the club and has registered six goals and three assists in 43 appearances across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

Last weekend, Aston Villa were trounced 3-0 by Premier League title hopefuls Liverpool at Anfield and former Villans' midfielder Jermaine Jenas spoke on Match of the Day 2 – via Birmingham Live – and aired his frustration at their defensive line, stating: "I think their game plan defensively today was quite worrying. First and foremost mistakes like these and inviting pressure at Anfield, you're asking for trouble when you start playing like this, you've got to be much more incisive. There's certain things in football that never change."

The Villans will take stock and recuperate over the international break before returning to action against Crystal Palace at Villa Park on September 16th. European adventures lie in wait for the Villans the following week, where they will travel to Poland to face Legia Warsaw in the Europa Conference League.

What has Ben Jacobs said?

According to journalist Jacobs writing in is column for CaughtOffside, Aston Villa were keen suitors for Sancho late in the summer, but Monchi's interest was deterred by Erik ten Hag: “Sancho was not really a player Ten Hag wanted to sell this summer despite early interest from Spurs and late interest from Aston Villa.”

Of course, Sancho has got himself into hot water recently after he publicly responded to comments from Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag made about his level of performance in training, cited by The Mirror.

jadon-sancho-bukayo-saka

Sancho took to social media to express his frustration at becoming something of a "scapegoat" at Old Trafford and it is said that Ten Hag could look to jettison the England international from involvement in senior training due to his reaction to the situation alongside enacting potential disciplinary action.

The former Borussia Dortmund ace, who earns around £350k-a-week on the books at Manchester United, hasn't exactly set the heather alight since moving to the North West in 2021 for a reported fee of £73 million.

As per Transfermarkt, Sancho has notched six goals and 12 assists in 82 appearances across all competitions for Manchester United, signifying a lack of consistency since his return to English football.

Truthfully, we will never know if Sancho could've found his feet again at Villa Park; however, Unai Emery and Monchi will have to be happy with the offensive options they have available for the remainder of the campaign.

Everton Transfer Update On Deal For £50m "Warrior" – Report

Everton have a long-standing interest in Chelsea central midfielder Conor Gallagher, and a reliable journalist has revealed whether Sean Dyche will make a late move before the transfer deadline on Friday.

How old is Conor Gallagher?

Gallagher is 23 years of age and an academy graduate at Stamford Bridge, but he’s never really been given a chance to prove what he’s capable of, having been sent out on four development loans throughout his career to Charlton, Swansea, West Brom and Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.

However, the England international has started all three top-flight games so far this season so is clearly being given more of an opportunity under Mauricio Pochettino than previous managers, but that hasn’t stopped him from being targeted by the likes of Aston Villa, Brighton, Liverpool, Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham.

Speaking to GiveMeSport last month, Dean Jones, journalist and transfer insider, claimed that the Toffees have been in contact with the Blues for a long period of time after seeing a £45m package for their target rejected back in January, having never fully lost hope that a move could take place at some point in the future.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Are Everton signing Conor Gallagher?

Writing in his column for CaughtOffside, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs name-checked Everton as one of the clubs to have been monitoring Gallagher for the largest amount of time, but admitted that the hierarchy are not pursuing a deal as it stands. He said:

“Conor Gallagher also faces an uncertain future but has been playing for Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino and is content to stay and fight for his place.

"Bayern, West Ham and Spurs have all looked at Gallagher during different parts of the window. Everton and Newcastle held a historical interest as well, but are not active currently.

"Brighton really like Gallagher, but not his wages, and that’s why nothing has materialised to date. Chelsea will listen to offers should they arrive around the £50m mark.”

Everton will know that Gallagher hasn’t yet been handed the proper chance to flourish, so having been dubbed a “warrior” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, it’s clear to see why Dyche and the rest of the board have wanted him for so long.

The Epsom-born talent is extremely calm and composed on the ball where he’s currently averaging a 92.6% pass success rate in the top-flight, not to mention that he loves to get stuck into challenges having made eight tackles so far this season which is more than any other of his teammates at Stamford Bridge, via FBRef.

The Elite Management Agency client, who has also clocked up 68 contributions (36 goals and 32 assists) since the start of his career, even has a great record against the Toffees having scored twice previously, so if he’s capable of doing that on the opposition side, surely he could continue that impressive form on Merseyside, but by the looks of things, a late move may not be on the cards.

Everton: £70k-p/w ace now "likely" to move on from Goodison

Everton defender Mason Holgate moving on this summer would be the 'right thing for him in his career' as Sean Dyche continues to streamline hid squad ahead of the new campaign commencing, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Who is interested in buying Mason Holgate from Everton?

According to The Daily Mail, both Southampton and Sheffield United are keen to bring in Holgate this summer as his future at Goodison Park hangs in the balance.

Everton are prepared to offload the £70k-a-week ace and Southampton are in talks with Everton to offer Holgate an escape route from Merseyside as Russell Martin priorities defensive reinforcements as he gears his side up for life in the Sky Bet Championship.

Football Insider claim that Everton would be willing to get Holgate off the wage bill by sanctioning a loan deal this window and Nottingham Forest are mooted to be another interested party in signing the 26-year-old.

Holgate is said to be free to leave Everton as he has failed to impress boss Sean Dyche. Last term, the Doncaster-born central defender featured just nine times in all competitions for the Blues, as per Transfermarkt.

Former Barnsley man Holgate featured at full-back in 2022/23; however, he may now have fallen further down the pecking order due to the arrival of Ashley Young at Everton, as per Sky Sports.

Jarrad Branthwaite has returned from his successful loan spell at PSV Eindhoven and has designs on solidifying himself as a regular starter at Goodison Park, stating to official Everton media channels: “For me, I know I need to come in, have a strong pre-season and secure a place for next season. I have got the experience I need to come back and get into the team. Overall, I need to have a strong pre-season and go from there.”

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Brown thinks the arrival of Young and return of Branthwaite to Goodison Park may spell the end for Holgate at the club.

Brown told FFC: "I believe that Jarrad Branthwaite is ahead of him now in the pecking order and will probably be the fourth centre-back. That makes it very difficult for Holgate to get in unless he's played as a full-back. I think Dyche did play him as a full-back in one game because he wanted his crossing ability in the team. It didn't go very well, as I recall. Now that Ashley Young is there, I think it's more than likely that we see Holgate move on, which I actually think would be the right thing for him in his career as well."

What next for Everton?

Arrivals will be a key part of this summer for Dyche at Everton as he looks to consolidate their footing in the Premier League following a rocky couple of years at Goodison Park on and off the field.

Everton are in talks with Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto and are said to be 'leading the race' to sign the 19-year-old and his versatility has impressed Kettering-born boss Dyche, as per Football Insider.

wilfried-gnonto-everton-transfer-news-opinion-premier-league

Ajax striker Brian Brobbey is another target for the Toffees, who are believed to have registered their interest with the Dutch giants over the possibility of acquiring the Netherlands Under-21 cap, as per the same outlet.

Sporx via Goodison News claim that Everton are one of several clubs who are keen to land 18-year-old Istanbul Basaksehir goalkeeper Deniz Dilmen, who is also garnering attention from AC Milan, Villarreal and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tottenham: Spurs Pull Plug On Major Signing For Ange

Tottenham Hotspur have pulled the plug on signing Galatasary defender Victor Nelsson with Ange Postecoglou's side "no longer in talks" this summer.

Who will Tottenham sign?

Spurs are attempting to back Postecoglou with more fresh faces, but with just two more games of their pre-season remaining and the start of 2023/2024 just next month, they will want to make more headway soon.

The north Londoners have seen goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, midfielder James Maddison and winger Manor Solomon join the club this window – following on from permanent deals for Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski.

Next on chairman Daniel Levy's transfer agenda is the signing of a two star centre-backs, and there have been a succession of defenders linked.

Postecoglou has admitted that is something the club are currently looking at, coming after Spurs conceded a pretty woeful 63 league goals last campaign.

"That's definitely our intention, absolutely," said Postecoglou when asked about signing new defenders.

"We've been working on it for a while and we'll definitely try to get it done as quickly as possible.

"I don't think it's any secret about some of the areas we needed to strengthen. Some of it I identified early on. The goalkeeper was one and central defence is another.

"In terms of the other boys, we've got a big squad but my view is I wanted to bring them along and just work with them, get some clarity in my head and give clarity to them."

Tottenham have been seriously interested and in talks for Micky van de Ven of Wolfsburg, but reports from The Athletic this morning suggest a deal could now be off.

However, rhe long list of alternative centre-backs linked with a move to N17 includes Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen, Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo, Barcelona'a Clement Lenglet, Juventus defender Gleison Bremer and Nelsson.

On the latter defender, there were reports of Spurs nearing a deal to sign the 24-year-old, but journalist Charlie Gordon of The Daily Express has a contrary update.

Taking to Twitter, Gordon says Tottenham are "no longer in talks" to sign Nelsson – with Postecoglou's side seemingly giving up on a deal.

"Update on Victor Nelsson," wrote the reporter.

"Told that Tottenham are no longer in talks for the Galatasaray CB, dismissing recent reports of an agreement between the clubs."

There is little background as to why Spurs have backed away, which we find bizarre considering his contract possesses an affordable £21 million release clause.

How good is Victor Nelsson?

The Denmark international, who featured at last year's 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has been a star player for Galatasary at club level.

Boasting some impressive stats from last season's Turkish Super Lig campaign, Nelsson made more blocks per 90 and won more battles in the air than any other Galatasary player (WhoScored).

An undroppable under manager Okan Buruk, Nelsson featured over more league minutes than any of his outfield teammates last campaign – surely highlighting his importance to Galatasary and quality as a player.

The former FC Copenhagen ace has been called one the "star player" of Galatasary by sections of the Turkish press, making Spurs' decision to back off a rather curious one.

Perhaps, and this is just speculation, they edging towards an agreement for other targets like Lenglet or Tapsoba.

Newcastle Could Sign Joelinton 2.0 In £50m ‘Monster’

Newcastle United are interested in completing their impressive summer transfer activity by hijacking a transfer for an imperious German Bundesliga ace…

Who do Newcastle United want to sign?

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are preparing a bid for Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba, with manager Eddie Howe hoping to make one more signing this month.

Tapsoba has been a top target for Tottenham Hotspur, but the Magpies' Champions League qualification could allow them to pip their Premier League rivals to his signature.

Read the latest Newcastle transfer news HERE…

The Burkina Faso international would command a fee of £50m, and while Spurs remain interested, Toon technical director Dan Ashworth could now complete the hijack and kickstart Newcastle's enthralling 2023/24 campaign.

How good is Edmond Tapsoba?

Newcastle kicked off their Premier League season with an emphatic victory over Aston Villa at St. James' Park, dismantling Unai Emery's outfit 5-1 and reaffirming their stature as one of the division's very best.

Sandro Tonali scored mere moments into his debut and looked a complete and imperious playmaker in the middle, with journalist Damian Fasciani already saying his £55m transfer from AC Milan is "paying dividends".

Winger Harvey Barnes also scored and assisted off the bench in a tremendous introduction following his £39m summer arrival from relegated Leicester City, and Howe could now target the central defence with the signing of Tapsoba to truly solidify the club's strength.

Having played 138 matches for Leverkusen, the 24-year-old has been described as a "monster" by talent scout Antonio Mango, who also lauded his ball-playing skills and positioning.

Edmond Tapsoba

The 36-cap colossus ranks among the top 13% of centre-backs across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for shot-creating actions, the top 9% for passes attempted, the top 5% for progressive passes, the top 7% for progressive carries and the top 8% for successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref.

He would act as the perfect counterweight to Sven Botman, who has been a veritable rock at the back since completing a £35m transfer from Lille last summer, integral in the rise to prominence.

Should Tapsoba arrive before the deadline, he could replicate Newcastle's success in dipping into German football following the signing of Joelinton from Hoffenheim for a club-record (at the time) £40m.

Indeed, the Brazilian striker-turned-midfielder flattered to deceive for much of his Tyneside career before remoulding himself over the past several years.

Joelinton has been hailed as "tireless" by writer James Nalton, while Magpies captain Kieran Trippier heralded the £85k-per-week gem as a "machine" for his sublime showings in the last year or so.

He ranks among the top 10% of midfielders for goals, the top 7% for successful take-ons, the top 13% for interceptions, the top 8% for blocks and the top 5% for aerials won per 90, as per FBref, and this all-embracing approach to his trade is akin to Tapsoba's, albeit in different thirds of the pitch.

Newcastle could replicate their Joelinton trick, this time to instant effect, by signing Tapsoba, who is dynamic and unflinching on the ball; his presence would enhance the Toon backline and Ashworth must work diligently to complete yet another astute Bundesliga transfer for the Tyneside team.

Everton Showing Interest In "Unbelievable" £190k-p/w Star

Everton are now showing an interest in signing Manchester United's Harry Maguire, and journalist Rudy Galetti has now revealed whether the defender is likely to be on the move this summer.

Is Harry Maguire leaving Man United?

West Ham United intended to sign Maguire in a £30m deal, however the move collapsed, with it emerging that he would rather stay at Old Trafford this season, however the Red Devils still remain open to offers, despite Erik ten Hag being content to keep him.

ESPN report that United think it is too late to go into the market for a new defender, but Fabrizio Romano has recently stated they are interested in signing Jean-Clair Todibo, Edmond Tapsoba, and Marc Guehi, although Benjamin Pavard is their "priority."

If his pursuit of a new centre-back proves to be successful, Erik ten Hag could choose to sanction Maguire's departure, and there have been a number of Premier League clubs credited with an interest this summer, including Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.

Just a few weeks ago, it was reported the Toffees were leading the race for the England international, and they could now be gearing themselves up to make a move, as GiveMeSport have credited them with "shock" interest.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Galetti has now confirmed the 30-year-old is still available to sign this summer, but there has been little in the way of progress towards an exit over the past couple of weeks.

The journalist said: "Despite the deal that collapsed with West Ham, Maguire is still on the market. Only with his farewell, Manchester United will sign a new centre-back. At the moment for the former United captain, everything is going slow.

“Everton showed interest in him in the last few days, but nothing concrete at the moment. Saudi Arabia is not an option. So, as it stands, the chances to remain in Manchester grow day after day."

How much does Harry Maguire earn per week?

If Everton are to tempt the Englishman into a move, they may have to offer him a significant wage package, given that he is currently tied down to a £190k-per-week contract at Old Trafford, which is not due to expire until the summer of 2025.

While he has received plenty of criticism during his time at Man United, the former Leicester City man has also received praise from his teammates, namely Luke Shaw, who hailed him for his performances for England, saying:

"Look at the Euros and what he has done, people need to understand he is a big part of the England team and they have to accept it."

"He keeps putting himself in the spotlight and it shows the strength and character he has got because, come on, everyone knows that he is an unbelievable player."

Maguire's aerial ability is very impressive, ranking in the 90th percentile for aerials won per 90 over the past year, and he has proven himself at international level, receiving 57 caps for his country, so he could be an excellent signing for Everton.
